Servant Leadership
Toys for Tots
Freshmen year, in the Emerging Leaders Academy I helped with a project to raise funds for toys for tots and went in to volunteer one day in Gateway Mall in Bismarck to help wrap and distribute toys. I spent a few hours there and was humbled by the experience of meeting some of the parents and helping find the toys that were donated for their children.
Backpack Project
Through the Emerging Leaders Academy, there was a group of us sophomore year who worked on a backpack project. We raised funds and then put together bags of goods for children and families in need. Some items included socks, non-perishable food, toys, coloring books, and snacks. Together, we raised over $500 by reaching out to sponsors. We went shopping for some goods that we coordinated with the director of the project. We were able to completely fill over 35 backpacks and still provide other goods and gift cards for future months. We also went in and filled the backpacks ourselves for that month which they were going to distribute later that week.
ELA Mentor Banquet
In the Emerging Leaders Academy, all juniors in the Liffrig Family School of Education and Behavior Sciences, we all receive two mentors, a faculty mentor and a professional mentor. I was the chair of the Mentor Banquet Committee so we put together two banquets for these mentors in which we were assigned. We worked out the details of choosing a date, reserving a room, ordering food, and programming the event. The first banquet was intended for us to meet our mentors in person, have time to visit with them and with other mentors, and to be introduced to who we all are and what the ELA program is. The second banquet was a concluding banquet in which we welcomed the ELA seniors to as well as our mentors for thanksgiving for all that they have done for us.
Retreats and Events
Through the university, I have been fortunate to help with and even lead some different events on campus. Some of these include Koinonea retreat, conformation retreats, small parish retreats, volunteering at the youth correctional center, friends of the poor, and vocations jamboree.
