Mentors
Dr. Brenda Tufte
Dr. Tufte was my faculty mentor. In meetings throughout the spring semester of we talked about professional development. Through Dr. Tufte, I was able to present at the NDACTE Conference in April 2018 at UND. I was among other student presenters from across the state. I presented on Legit Tech Strategies and ways that we can implement in our classroom, no matter how much technology a school is provided with, to increase engagement and offer different immediate ways of assessment. Dr. Tufte assisted me in coming up with different ideas to present upon and helped me structure my presentation. She has also connected me with different educators, specifically in the Bismarck area that I can reach out to for my own professional development. |
Mrs. Catherine Littlefield
Mrs. Catherine Littlefield is a recent graduate of the University of Mary and currently is a math teacher at Legacy High School in Bismarck. I was able to shadow her and visit. Legacy runs under a flex-mod schedule so just hearing how the school is run, the cooperation opportunities between the staff, specifically the cooperation the math teachers are able to have being most all their desks in the same room. I also got to hear of some of the joys and challenges of first year teaching. We also focused on the idea of a flipped classroom being she does that with some of her geometry classes. She gave me some tips and tricks if I would want to do it one day. I also attended a PLC meeting in the morning with different math teachers and attended her PBL for her geometry classes. In the meeting they discussed how they each like to teach their students to factor and more importantly how should the students should be thinking about factoring. For her PBL, the students created different objects with two main shapes and had to create a sculpture and find the volume and surface area of them.
